Springfield, Virginia
Located 13 miles south of our Nations Capital, Springfield is located at the crossroads of I-95 and the Washington Beltway. Our community began in 1854 when the "Springfield" station, obtaining its name from large springs in the area, was built along the Orange & Alexandria Railroad. Our first one-room school was built in 1911 but it was not until 1953 that the population went above 300. Today, Springfield is home to 100,000.
As a suburb with a particularly transient population, there is little local culture in Springfield's brief history. It is characterized by a genuine wealth of strip malls and plazas. Some of them are quite old and have been remodelled repeatedly over the decades due to their continuing economic viability. Springfield is popular for its affordable multi-ethnic cuisine, including Chinese, Mexican, Afghani, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indian eateries.
