The Big Island of Hawaii

Hawai`i County, commonly referred to as the "Big Island," is the youngest and largest of the Hawaiian islands. About 4,028 square miles in size, the island is home to approximately 137,531 residents. In recent years the island has experienced one of the largest population growth rates in the state. Located well within the tropics, the climate on the Big Island is nearly ideal. The island of Hawai`i boasts some of the world's finest luxury hotels. The "gold coast" on the island's west side in sunny Kona-Kohala is home to eight spectacular destination resorts. This, and other world-class draws such as Volcanoes National Park, makes for a bustling tourism industry.
